First introduced at LDI 2012 and now shipping, “Watson” Power Management from Leprecon is a new and innovative solution for delivering AC power and DMX data to your electronic fixtures.

Using one DMX control channel or simply sensing DMX data, Watson turns fixtures off when they are not in use; saving power, extending fixture life and isolating expensive electronics from power line glitches. An additional isolated DMX output adds extra DMX capacity, and adds a firewall between fixtures and the rest of the control system. The programmable LED display is used for setting the mode and time delay for Power On/Off for each Watson unit.

The new APC Series Architectural Wall Station Control system from Leprecon provides the perfect solution for integrating both architectural and theatrical lighting control into a single DMX based system. APC components are easy to install, wire and configure.

The APC System includes a series of Preset Button wall stations along with the optional Power Hub. Preset panels are available in one, three, six or 12 button preset looks plus Off, all with programmable fades. Standard Cat5 cable and RJ45 connectors are used to interconnect the panels in a system.

The Power Hub provides power for up to 10 APC panels. Standard 5 pin XLR connectors are used for DMX in and out, and a RJ45 connector is used for connecting to the Preset panels. The Hub adds optical isolation for the dimmer output, and transmits DMX data with optimized timing that works well with low cost ‘DMX Challenged’ LED fixtures.

When the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa needed lighting for their new exhibit they called upon the services of designer, Scott Wiley of Sound Concepts to help them out. The project originally started in 2009 after the epic 2008 flood devastated the NCSML campus, creating over $11 million in damage.
Their goal was not only to re-build, but to create an exhibit depicting how the 2008 floods affected both the NCSML and the historic Czech neighborhoods.

The NCSML wanted the exhibit to include an interactive lighting display using a topographical model with pictures of downtown Cedar Rapids, showing both the flood lines of 2008 and 1993 (the previous highest flood level recorded, matching an older record flood from 1929). Museum visitors would be able to press a button next to explanatory paragraph and illuminate the corresponding picture for a visual representation and then self-cancel after a few moments.

Sound Concepts was brought in to the fold in early 2010 to help out with the NCSML project. Scott Wiley was given the task of not only lighting the exhibit but lso designing a system where finished construction precluded running conduits for larger wire bundles. Wiley’s design relied heavily on the aris® Architectural Interface system and customized wall stations from Leprecon. A custom version of the AI-512 software was created expressly for this project. This allowed the AI processor cards being used to detect the button pushes, and a LD-360 DMX adapter card being used to drive dimmable LED’s in the topographic model. MR16 Micro Ellipse and 3.5” ellipsoidal fixtures were supplied by Altman Stage Lighting.

Wiley was able to bring together off-the-shelf technology from the architectural and advertising signage worlds to create a reliable, custom solution that requires no attention from Museum staff during daily operations.

Leprecon is pleased to announce that the award winning LDS-610 stick dimmer is now available in white. First introduced in black, the new white LDS-610 dimmer sticks are perfect for installations with white backgrounds or ceilings or any light-colored surfaces in architectural dimming applications.

The LDS-610 continues to be an ideal dimmer for any retrofit or application where space and available power are an issue. Each dimmer can be discretely located throughout various venues, such as schools churches and theaters and easily powered by as little as a 20 amp 3-phase circuit. The result is any size dimming system with lower overall equipment and installation costs.

The convection cooled LDS-610 features six channels of dimming with 1200 watts per channel, terminal power input with phase detection, an internal single/three phase switch, and encapsulated chokes for near silent operation. Options include Edison, stage pin or twist lock output connectors and colors now include black and white.
